Every Stanford undergraduate should give serious consideration to studying away

Regardless of the academic path you choose, you will be enriched by your journey in one of our study away programs. Your time with BOSP will equip you with transformative educational experiences—regularly taught by Stanford faculty—that inspire you to embrace new challenges in complex global settings. Roughly half of each graduating class studies away through BOSP during their undergraduate career at Stanford. Participating in a BOSP program will help you develop the skills required to excel in the global workforce, and will add value to your life and the lives of others.

My study away experience in Kyoto

"As an aspiring public servant, living in a place so unlike where I grew up was critical in shaping how I now think about making my community better. Japan is a totally different environment from the US, with a lot to admire as well as its own set of complex social issues. It was really inspirational to see how a different society approaches its problems. The courses in Kyoto are designed to get you out and about in the city, so you’re never just learning about the country in the classroom."

Alumni Reflection

“My time studying away with BOSP in Santiago, Chile, had an incredible impact on me. Living in another country and speaking a foreign language instilled a new dimension of confidence in me. Navigating the unknowns of daily life in another country could be quite challenging and required me to be persistent, flexible, and resourceful in completely new ways. It may be uncomfortable at times, but the ultimate personal impact of studying away is incredibly powerful and life-changing, and it may be difficult to find another time later in life to have such an experience. As the saying goes, “take the risk or lose the chance!” -My Le Nguyen, BA Economics ‘03, MBA ‘09, Founder of Lyden Capital.
