OSPBER 82: Globalization and Germany

Taught in German - This course is about globalization and Germany's position in the world economy. The first half of the course introduces the main channels of globalization and their history. Each channel---the movement of capital, goods, people and ideas---will be illuminated in detail. We will discuss arguments in favor and against economic integration and learn about the relations between globalization and domestic political processes. The second half of the course focuses on Germany. We will learn about key industries of the German export economy. Moreover, we will discuss how globalization relates to current debates on migration and social policy. Germany's position in the Europe Union as well as the world economy will be explored. The course closes with a discussion about Germany and its role in future globalization.
