Friends a Firenze

with FAF in cafe

“The FAF program is a great way to learn about Florence through the lens of a fellow student. The group outings are explorative and exciting, and I appreciate having a local resource to reach out to for tips!" Winter 2022 Program Participant

The Friends a Firenze program is an ideal opportunity to meet college-aged Italians and get to experience firsthand Italian youth culture in Florence. Friends a Firenze are local students who are eager to meet their American counterparts. Students who wish to participate can indicate their interest on the orientation form.

Public Service

Public service in Florence

"My volunteer experience helping take care of the kids at a pre-school was great and I really enjoyed the company of the other people who worked there and I got to learn about Italian culture from them." Winter 2017 Program Participant.

Public service is a great way to be an active part of Florentine life and to give something back to the community and to the city that has hosted our Program for sixty years. You can choose to work with children, immigrants, those in need, and organizations dedicated to international cooperation, the environment, healthcare, women, and sports. In addition to quarter-long volunteer opportunities, we also organize “Public Service Day” events. For more information on getting involved in public service while at the Program please send us an e-mail.

Internships

BOSP Florence student intern

“I enjoyed my internship immensely and was a big fan of how well I was able to network within that space and within my Florence experience.” Fall 2018 Program Participant

Students coming to Florence are encouraged to participate in our internship program. Mentored internships provide students with the opportunity to gain invaluable professional experience in a foreign country and offer in-depth exposure to Italian organizations and companies, enabling them to improve their Italian skills and to increase their knowledge of Italian professional communities and of how business is conducted outside of the U.S. Successfully completing an internship abroad is something that truly stands out on your résumé and demonstrates that you are not only culturally savvy but also professional, adaptable, and have excellent communication skills. Please note that all final decisions regarding placement are at the discretion of the internship hosts.
